BARIQUE, TIMOR-LESTE — The Timor-Leste Cricket Board (TLCB) expanded its youth development outreach today, conducting an energetic grassroots cricket session at Escola Básica Central Público (EBCP) Abat-Oan in Barique.
Led by Treinador Helder Gomes, the clinic introduced students to the core fundamentals of cricket through structured coaching, interactive drills, and fun physical activities.
Building Skills from the Ground Up
The session focused on making the sport accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for young beginners:
- Batting & Bowling Basics: Step-by-step instruction on proper batting stance, grip, and overarm bowling mechanics.
- Fielding & Agility Drills: Catching, throwing, and reaction games engineered to improve hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Mini-Matches: Modified small-sided games giving participants immediate practical experience with teamwork, communication, and match structure.
Growing the Game Across Timor-Leste
Direct outreach to regional schools remains a central strategy for TLCB as the board works to build a vibrant sporting culture beyond major urban centers. Coach Helder Gomes praised the participants for their remarkable energy, quick learning, and enthusiasm throughout the morning drills.
